The Pamlico County Committee of 100 is comprised of business owners, elected officials and concerned citizens interested in change for Pamlico County through economic development. The Committee, on a hiatus from 2004 to 2008, is working to continue and establish new business opportunities, tourism activities, engaging with the military as it expands in Eastern North Carolina and other projects.
Rural Pamlico County, a peninsula formed from portions of Craven and Beaufort Counties in the 1870s, has more than 215,000 acres including 46,000 acres of cropland and boasts 300 miles of shoreline. Its nine townships, facing challenges living and working in a region divided by rivers and streams, are small incorporated areas nestled between farmland and forests.
Farming, fishing and forestry are the economic drivers within the County with influence from neighboring Marine Corp Air Station at Cherry Point and PCS Phosphate at Aurora in addition to seasonal tourism and faith-based youth camps.
The Committee meets the third Tuesday of each month at Little Italy restaurant on Highway 55 in Grantsboro at 12 o’clock, noon.
